Love at First Height – Written by Kelley Jaclyn

My fiancé and I first started dating when I was 12 years old. I don’t think either of us had any idea what love was then, but we told each other every day through passed notes in the hall at school. The only date we ever went on then was a trip to Six Flags with all of our friends. We weren’t alone at all except for when we sat on the sky ride together. He gave me my “first kiss”… a peck on the cheek!

After the summer ended Luke went away to a boarding school in Upstate New York (about 5 hours away) to play hockey. A few short weeks later we broke up simply because we didn’t think we would ever be able to see each other. I thought about Luke from time to time, but never imagined I would spend the rest of my life with him!

The summer before our Junior Year in High School, Luke came back to the public school in our hometown. Since he had gone away tragedy had struck my family. My mom suffered a severe brain aneurysm followed by several
strokes. The damage the brain injuries caused was so significant that she still remains at a long term care facility to this day.

When he returned, Luke and I began dating immediately, almost as though nothing had happened. At that time I was 16 and he was 17. After we were back together for a few months, Luke took me to Fright Fest at 6 Flags. He seemed nervous all night and I soon found out why. Up there on the same sky ride he had given me my first kiss, he told me he was in love with me. I had known I loved him as soon as he moved back, because of how much support and care he showed me and my family as we tried to cope with my mom’s injury and her being away from home. I teared up after he told me how he felt and told him I loved him too.

So the rest is history. We continue to have many ups and down in both of our lives, especially since he left for the Army just over a year ago. However, we have always been there to support each other. I can’t imagine spending my life with a more amazing person. He is my first and only love and I am so excited to marry my best friend.
